We knew the figures were grim for Sony’s Playstation 3, but now we have the numbers to confirm it. After analyzing June sales for both the Wii and PS3 in Japan, a Japanese publishing company announced on Monday that Wii sales outpaced PS3 sales by six to one for the month. For April, the margin was four to one, and five to one in May, indicating that Sony is still stuck in a downward slide.

The actual numbers for the month were 270,974 Wii systems sold to 41,628 PS3 systems. Microsoft’s older Xbox 360 sold 17,616 units in the same period. Even in Nintendo’s native Japan, strong sales of the Wii have often left store shelves empty as the company struggles to keep up with demand.

Sony has recently announced a number of strategies to shore up PS3 sales, including a raft of new games to be released, and a possible price drop. Since neither has yet come to fruition, it’s unlikely we’ll see PS3 sales pick up in the immediate future.
