What’s happened? The Philips Roku TV, which was unveiled yesterday, is bringing Ambilight technology to TVs in the US for the first time. This technology aims to give users a more immersive viewing experience that extends beyond the TV screen.

  • Ambilight technology is finally making its way to a TV that’ll retail in the US.
  • The Philips TV that is bringing Ambilight technology to the US will run on Roku.
  • Philips Roku TV is available in 43-, 50-, 55-, and 65-inch sizes.
  • It comes with support for 4K and HDR10, but you won’t get Dolby Vision or HDR10+.

Why is this important? Ambilight technology has been available on TVs that retail in the UK and Europe for over 20 years. This technology uses colored LED lights built into the back of a TV to offer a more immersive experience for users. The LED lights follow the on-screen action, extending the colors from the TV to the wall/surface behind your set.

  • Ambilight technology makes watching movies or programs on your TV more engaging.
  • The just-released Philips Roku TV will add depth and realism to whatever is being viewed.
  • Ambilight technology on TVs is customizable, and can also used even when the TV isn’t in use.

Why should I care? The new Philips Roku TV is bringing a style of viewing that TV users in the US aren’t accustomed to.

  • With this new TV, Philips is giving potential buyers an opportunity to try something new.
  • There are third-party light options you can stick onto the rear of your TV, but Philips’ Ambilight technology is slicker and ready to go out of the box.
  • The set also features the usual array of smart features, providing you access to all the major streaming services.

Okay, what’s next? While the Philips Roku TV was announced on October 1, 2025, there is little information on its availability as well as pricing. The pricing will depend on the screen size you go for, with the 65-inch option being the most expensive. It’ll be interesting to see how the US reacts to having Ambilight technology on a TV.

Sony’s True RGB technology is aiming for the best of OLED and Mini LED
Sony’s new display technology is designed to combine OLED level color with Mini LED brightness
Sony Bravia 9 II (

The battle for premium TV buyers has largely revolved around two technologies in recent years: OLED and Mini LED. OLED has earned a reputation for delivering exceptional contrast and viewing angles, while Mini LED has pushed brightness levels to new heights. The tradeoff has often been deciding which compromise makes more sense for your room and viewing habits.

Sony believes that conversation may be about to change. During a private media briefing in New York City, the company unveiled a new display technology called True RGB, which rethinks how a TV backlight works and aims to combine some of the biggest strengths of both OLED and Mini LED.

New Apple TV and HomePod mini are apparently ready for a fall launch
Apple finally remembered the HomePod mini exists
HomePod

Apple’s smart home hardware lineup may finally be getting refreshed after years of relative silence. According to a new report from Mark Gurman, Apple is preparing updated versions of both the Apple TV set-top box and the HomePod mini, with launches currently planned for later this fall.

The timing is notable because Apple’s home-focused products have largely remained unchanged while rivals like Amazon and Google aggressively expanded their smart home ecosystems with AI-powered assistants and connected devices. Apple now appears ready to reposition its home products around the company’s next-generation Siri and Apple Intelligence strategy.
