The Full House reunion just got ‘Fuller’ as Bob Saget returns

The reboot of ‘80s and ‘90s sitcom Full House (cleverly titled Fuller House) is now almost complete as Bob Saget has been confirmed to reprise his role as patriarch Danny Tanner for the special reunion episode.

Saget was the last of the major former cast holdouts to confirm his inclusion, with Dave Coulier (Joey) saying that he would be back earlier this month, along with Lori Loughlin as Aunt Becky. John Stamos (Uncle Jesse) is intricately tied to the project, both appearing in it, as well as producing. In fact, it was Stamos himself who announced the news about Daddy Tanner in a Tweet.

The show centers around Candice Cameron-Bure’s character, eldest daughter DJ Tanner, who is now a newly-widowed mother of two, with another one on the way. DJ’s younger sister Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) and best friend/former neighbor Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber) come to live with her to help with the kids (that’s how the house gets “Fuller).

In the original series, you may remember, Danny Tanner was left to take on the sole parental role with the help of his best friend Joey and brother-in-law Jesse after Danny’s wife – DJ’s mom – was killed by a drunk driver. While the sequel series won’t be a remake of the original, it will likely follow a similar track, where out of very unfortunate circumstances arises loads of hijinks, appreciation, love, and lessons. (Cue the sappy background music.)

Noticeably absent from the reboot, however, is youngest child Michelle Tanner, who was jointly played by now fashion moguls Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. Last week, the twins confirmed that they would not be reprising the role that made them famous child stars. Naturally, Uncle Jesse is upset. Have mercy.

The role has always been an interesting one for Saget, as Danny Tanner was a conservative, uptight dad. Saget, meanwhile, is known around comedy circles for his raunchy, potty-mouthed act – a stark departure from the morning TV show host he played on the series, as well as his former role as host of America’s Funniest Home Videos. That said, Saget played the role so well that many were shocked when they realized what his real comedy stylings were like.

Fuller House will premiere on Netflix some time in 2016.
