Disney just dropped the first teaser trailer for Hexed, set in a magical world of witches. This animated movie is the studio’s first original non-sequel since Wish in 2023.

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ 65th animated feature hits theaters on November 25, 2026. If you prefer streaming, Hexed will arrive on Disney+ in early 2027.

Hexed cast, plot, and trailer breakdown

The trailer introduces Billie, voiced by Hailee Steinfeld, an impulsive teenager who has always felt like an outsider. When her bracelet breaks and her fingers suddenly spark with magic, things spiral fast.

She accidentally destroys a school bathroom, gets expelled, and finds herself hurtled out of suburbia into a hidden magical realm called Hexe. The world itself looks visually distinct, with a dreamy aesthetic.

There she meets two new companions: Ms. Quill, an enchanted feather quill pen voiced by seven-time Emmy winner Tracey Ullman, and Elias Quire, a magical journal voiced by Stephen Fry.

Her cautious mother, Alice, voiced by Rashida Jones, gets pulled into the journey too. Together, they uncover long-held family secrets that could reshape the world of witches forever.

Director Fawn Veerasunthorn described Billie as someone who has felt miscast in her own life and said it takes entering a world of wild, unhinged magic for her to finally begin understanding herself.

A big season for Disney and Pixar animation

Hexed is arriving at a strong moment for Disney and Pixar animation overall. Pixar’s Hoppers, an original sci-fi comedy about a woman who transfers her consciousness into a robotic beaver, crossed $500 million worldwide earlier this year.

Toy Story 5, which sees Woody and Buzz go up against a disruptive new tablet toy named Lilypad, opens in theaters on June 19. Hexed follows in November, giving the studio a strong animated presence across the entire year.

Hollywood’s AI script problem just got roasted by Gore Verbinski
Gore Verbinski

Gore Verbinski has a blunt message for filmmakers thinking about handing the script over to AI. According to Variety, the Pirates of the Caribbean and Rango director called for a rating system that would disclose how artificial intelligence is used in movies. His sharpest example was screenwriting. Verbinski reportedly said that if AI is used to write a script, the film should receive an F in that system.

With Hollywood still trying to figure out where AI fits into the picture, this is a spicy take about AI-generated visuals and automated writing tools.
