Kevin Spacey is turned into Mr. Fuzzypants the cat in the trailer for Nine Lives

Kevin Spacey may have two Academy Awards and a long list of other honors for his movie and television roles (including the critically acclaimed political drama House of Cards), but apparently he’s not above being turned into a house cat for the upcoming comedy Nine Lives.

EuropaCorp has released a new trailer for the upcoming comedy directed by Men in Black filmmaker Barry Sonnenfeld, and it offers a peek at a film in which a magical pet store owner played by Christopher Walken turns a workaholic CEO played by Spacey into a cat named “Mr. Fuzzypants.” Naturally, hilarity ensues as Spacey — in the body of Mr. Fuzzypants — attempts to win back the affections of the family he nearly lost.

Yes, you read that correctly. Christopher Walken turns Kevin Spacey into a cat named Mr. Fuzzypants.

Assuming for just a moment that the previous, one-sentence synopsis of Nine Lives isn’t enough to pique your interest in the trailer (if not the entire film), the cast also includes Jennifer Garner, Malina Weissman, Cheryl Hines, and Robbie Amell. Oh, and the famous, tongue-wagging cat celebrity Lil Bub also appears in the film as a cat named “Iancat.”

But let’s be honest here, folks: The real appeal of this movie is going to be in imagining that it’s actually Spacey’s House of Cards character Francis Underwood inhabiting the body of Mr. Fuzzypants the cat. Now that is entertainment.

Along with Sonnenfeld directing, the film features a script penned by not one, but five screenwriters. Four Christmases writers Matt Allen and Caleb Wilson share credit on the script with Gwyn Lurie (The Music Never Stopped), Dan Antoniazzi, and Ben Shiffrin.

Nine Lives is scheduled to hit theaters August 5, and if you’re craving the authentic cinematic experience for this film, you’ll probably want to buy tickets that first weekend. There’s a distinct possibility that this one doesn’t stick around in theaters very long.
