How do you survive Ragnarök, Norse mythology’s version of the apocalypse? Well, it helps to have a Hulk.
While Ragnarök doesn’t end well for Thor in Norse canon, Marvel does things a little differently when it comes to the God of Thunder. Case in point: There is no mention of Thor teaming up with any gamma-radiation-laden green guys in the old stories, but JoBlo is reporting that Mark Ruffalo is on board for Thor: Ragnarok nonetheless.
The film will reportedly take place on a “distant planet” and, though we don’t yet know how much time he’ll spend as Banner and how much time he’ll spend as his larger, angrier alter-ego — the character is said to “feature prominently.”
Of course, the last time we saw The Hulk he was on his way to parts unknown in a Quinjet, but did anyone really think he would just ride off into the sunset when there was still smashing left to be done?
JoBlo’s sources have also confirmed that both Tom Hiddleston (Loki!) and Jaimie Alexander (Lady Sif) are reprising and we learned recently that Taika Waititi (What We Do In the Shadows) will direct. Despite the fact that this movie is over two years away, Marvel seems to have most of its ducks in a row already.
Thor: Ragnarok isn’t set to hit theaters until Nov. 3, 2017 — which means you’ll have eaten two Thanksgiving dinners and will be thinking about a third by the time this premiers.
While Hemsworth’s Thor will be conspicuously absent for the upcoming Captain America: Civil War, you can catch the actor as Kevin the receptionist in Ghostbusters, and as Owen Chase the whaleman in Ron Howard’s In the Heart of the Sea.
