Colin Firth won an Oscar for playing an unlikely monarch who battles his own speech impediment in The King’s Speech, but in a new clip from his upcoming spy film Kingsman: The Secret Service, the celebrated actor proves he’s more than capable of holding his own in a good ol’ bar brawl, too.
20th Century Fox has released a new clip from director Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming adaptation of the 2012 comic book series penned by Mark Millar (Wanted, Kick-Ass), and the footage features a full scene from the film showing Firth’s super-spy teaching a bar full of thugs a painful lesson about minding their manners. Clearly, Firth is as comfortable with hard-hitting action scenes as he is with high drama.
The film casts Firth as a member of a super-secret spy agency who recruits a promising young street kid (played by Taron Egerton) for the organization’s training program, only to have the entire agency come under attack by a dangerous genius. The original comic-book series that the film is based on was created by Millar and Watchmen co-creator Dave Gibbons.
Along with Firth and Egerton, the film features an impressive cast that includes Michael Caine, Samuel L. Jackson, and Mark Strong. The project also reunites Vaughn with his frequent collaborator, screenwriter Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass, Stardust, X-Men: First Class).
Kingsman: The Secret Service hits theaters February 13, 2015.
