Weezer superfan spends $25K to bird-watch with Rivers Cuomo in the Galapagos

Looks like Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo may have to make a pit stop in the Galapagos with one loaded superfan this year. Ahead of the ‘90s alt rockers’ 10th record (out April 1), one of the group’s pre-order choices offered the opportunity to go bird-watching with Rivers in the Galapagos for $25,000.

If that’s not outlandish enough, there’s a kicker: Cuomo will apparently travel with this dedicated follower to the storied islands off the coast of Ecuador via Greyhound bus. Apparently, someone did not take this as a joke: a fan has bought the “Weezer Experience Bundle,” according to the group’s Facebook page.

Whoa, got word that someone bought the $25k pre-order package on weezerwebstore.com late last night. Time to figure out how to get a Greyhound to the Galapagos.

The description of the pre-order item gives a detailed itinerary for the once-in-a-lifetime trip. The purchaser will explore the islands to find the elusive White-cheeked pintail, take a catamaran to the Charles Darwin Research Station, and sing a variation of The British Are Coming with Rivers Cuomo. “[They will] replace every lyric about ‘old king george’ to ‘lonesome george,’” explained the package description.

In addition to the tropical adventure, the pre-order option gives the fan a signed copy of the album, a pair of tickets to see them on tour this summer, and the honor of being dubbed by the band “King of the World” for a day. Band staff haven’t yet announced who the superfan is — or how they’ll pull off the trip. It’s also unclear what extra costs will have to be paid to get Rivers Cuomo to fully commit, as the item’s description states “You have to pay for Rivers on top of paying the band $25,000.”

If the trip does come to pass, we’ll certainly be looking forward to seeing some pictures from the Galapagos. Maybe Cuomo will get some inspiration for record number 11 there?

For everyone who doesn’t have $25,000 in expendable income, Weezer begins a four-month long U.S. tour on March 31 in Brooklyn, NY.
