Oppo may not be a household name in the United States, but the Oppo Find X could well be the smartphone to change that. While it comes with all the specs you’d hope for in a 2018 flagship phone, there are some interesting features in the Chinese manufacturer’s newest phone that may catch you by surprise — and are certainly worth giving the phone a second look. Here’s everything you need to know about the Oppo Find X. We take a closer look in our hands-on review.

Possible new model of the Find X with 10GB of RAM
The 8GB of RAM in the Oppo Find X isn’t exactly on the smaller side for modern smartphones — which is why we were surprised to hear whispers that Oppo is planning to release a new model of the Find X that comes with a whopping 10GB of RAM — over twice as much as the Galaxy S9.
The model was spotted on TENAA by noted leakster Ice Universe. According to the screenshot, the 10GB version will come with 256GB of storage space. If this is to be believed, then the Oppo Find X would be the first smartphone to come with 10GB of RAM.

What’s the point of adding 2GB more RAM in a device that already had 8GB? The jury’s out. The way RAM functions in smartphones is fairly complex, so it’s not simply the case that adding more RAM will make a phone faster. If that was the case, the Find X would be a far more powerful phone than the newly released iPhone XS — and that simply isn’t the case. It could simply be that Oppo wants to boast about being the first to add double-digits of RAM to a smartphone. Still, it will be interesting to see if adding more RAM changes the Find X much.
Pricing details and the Find X Lamborghini Edition
Oppo released further details about the Find X’s price on June 29, and at the same time, revealed another version of the phone with some very good news. In addition to the Find X and the Find X Lamborghini Edition, Oppo will release the Find X Super Flash Edition, which comes equipped with Super VOOC charging. This feature charges the phone from zero to capacity in 35 minutes, a feature previously only thought to come with the expensive and limited Lamborghini Edition.
Prices have been given only in China so far, although the Find X will be released internationally in the future. The standard Find X will cost 5,000 yuan, or about $760, while the Super Flash Edition will increase to 6,000 yuan ($910). Finally, the Lamborghini Edition is 10,000 yuan (about $1,510). A price in euros was announced at the launch event in Paris, putting the Find X at 1,000 euros (about $1,163), and the Lamborghini Edition at 1,700 euros (about $1,979). The Find X will be available from July 13 in China, while the other two models will come in August.
Design
At first glance, the Find X looks very 2018. It’s all glass and metal, with smooth curves. You’d be forgiven for mistaking it for the Samsung Galaxy S9, and the way the screen curves around the body is certainly reminiscent of Samsung’s flagship. But there’s one important difference that stands out: The incredibly high screen-to-body ratio.
Oppo has managed to shrink down bezels around the screen to the point where there’s barely any bezel around the top and sides of the phone, and only a tiny chin at the bottom. Mathematically, it’s 93.8 percent screen, an incredible piece of engineering. For context, the iPhone X is only 82.9 percent screen, and could only accomplish that with the divisive notch at the top. The Find X has no notch, and the 6.4-inch OLED display dominates the front of the phone in a way we’ve rarely seen before.
But where’s the front-facing camera? Here’s where the real trickery lies — open the camera app and the camera appears, the top section rising out of the phone’s chassis on a motor. Close the camera app and it disappears back into the phone again. Oppo claims that this process only takes 0.5 of a second to complete, and in our experience, it’s no longer than the camera app itself takes to start.
The front-facing camera itself is a 25-megapixel monster, and it’s joined by a 3D face-scanning array, too. It’s not just the front-facing camera hidden here — the rear camera array is contained in the rising compartment as well, and you’ll find a 20-megapixel and 16-megapixel lens here. However, there’s no fingerprint scanner — all biometric options are contained within the front-facing 3D face scanner, which Oppo says is secure enough for mobile payment use.

With all that excitement out of the way, you might expect Oppo to have played it safe with the specs. Thankfully, that’s not the case, and Oppo has packed a whole load of numbers into the Find X.

The inclusion of the Snapdragon 845 isn’t surprising, but it is welcome. It’s one of the most powerful mobile processors in the world, setting great benchmarks and providing amazing performance — and it means we expect great things from the Oppo Find X. Backing that up is 8GB of RAM, which should make sure the phone is able to multitask extremely well.
There’s plenty of space for media too, with up to 256GB of storage. The battery is enormous — a 3,700mAh behemoth that comes with Oppo’s VOOC fast charging. The one disappointment may be the comparatively low 1080p resolution — with the display being so large, it’s likely the display will not be as sharp as competitors with higher resolutions.
Release date, prices, and models
Oppo has until now sold its phones in China and other parts of Asia. The Find X is particularly important because it’s going to be the first Oppo phone available in North America and Europe. No dates, exact regions, or information regarding carrier support or retail partners has been announced yet. In China, the phone was slated for a July 13 release. There are three different versions: The standard Find X, the Super Flash Edition with Super VOOC charging, and the Lamborghini Edition. Prices in China start at 5,000 yuan (or around $760), while in Europe the standard Find X will be 1,000 euros (about $1,164).
The Lamborghini Edition has a carbon fiber textured body, 512MB of storage space, and the Super VOOC charging system. It will also come with Oppo’s new O-Free true wireless headphones and cost 1,700 euros. It has been produced with Lamborghini, features the car company’s famous logo, and is described as being the start of an ongoing relationship between the two brands.
