Samsung leak shows its upcoming wide foldable will be unmissable in a sea of phones

Samsung's wider Galaxy Fold dummy has leaked, and the Qi2 magnets have us more excited than the design itself.

Samsung is developing a wider Galaxy Fold, and if you’ve been keeping up with recent tech news, this won’t come as a surprise. While its arrival was already expected, newly leaked dummy units have now given us our first confirmed look at the design, and there’s plenty to be excited about.

The design looks like nothing else in your pocket

While the original Pixel Fold was released as a book-style foldable, it switched to the more popular taller-folding form factor in its next iteration. Since then, most foldables have featured the same design.

Samsung is planning to change that with its wide foldable design, which would provide a better tablet experience when unfolded. The new dummy leaks, courtesy of X leaker Sonny Dickson, showcase an almost passport-style design with dual cameras on the back.

Compared to the regular Samsung Galaxy Z Fold, the new design is both squatter and wider. If previous leaks are correct, the inner display will measure 7.6 inches with a 4:3 aspect ratio.

I quite like the size. In its closed state, it looks small enough to use with one hand, finally giving small-phone lovers something to get excited about.

Qi2 magnets? Now you have my full attention

What excites me even more than the design is that the dummies appear to show a circular cutout in the middle, similar to Apple’s MagSafe charging system. The magnetic charging system was adopted as the Qi2 standard, but no company other than Google has embraced it.

The Qi2 standard not only supports faster wireless charging, but the built-in magnets ensure that the phone aligns perfectly with the charger. And if Apple’s MagSafe ecosystem is anything to go by, it could also mean a richer accessory market for Samsung devices.

The upcoming wide foldable looks promising. I just hope that, unlike the Galaxy S25 Edge, which Samsung launched to compete with the iPhone Air before quietly shelving it, this is not just a reactionary product but a new line that Samsung commits to iterating and improving.

Apple is finally building the AI Photo editor that Google and Samsung have had for years
Apple's AI photo editing push in iOS 27 is the right move. It's just arriving three years after Google's Magic Editor and several Galaxy AI generations later.
Using the Clean Up tool on iPhone.

Google’s Photos app has been doing things that Apple’s Photos app couldn’t, for years, and the iPhone-maker has noticed. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, in his latest report, claims that iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 will come with a dedicated “Apple Intelligence Tools” section inside the Photos editing interface.

The “Apple Intelligence Tools” section will include three new AI-powered photo-editing features: Extend, Enhance, and Reframe. Before we begin with what the features actually do, all of them will run entirely on-device, and, in a typical Apple fashion, complete their edits in seconds.
