What’s happened? Shortly after releasing its iPhone Air contender in China, Motorola has brought the X70 Air to international markets.

  • The global variant, called Motorola Edge 70, is now up for purchase in the UK for £700 (~$924).
  • The device has a 5.99mm thin profile, making it marginally thicker than the iPhone Air and the Galaxy S25 Edge.
  • It packs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 SoC, 12GB of RAM, and 512GB of onboard storage, and features a 6.67-inch pOLED display that refreshes at 120Hz.
  • Despite its slim chassis, the Edge 70 houses a sizeable 4,800mAh battery with 68W wired fast charging support and a dual camera setup consisting of 50MP main and ultrawide sensors. The phone also sports a 50MP selfie shooter.

Why is this important? The Motorola Edge 70 is the latest entrant in the slim phone race that offers buyers a more affordable alternative to Apple and Samsung’s offerings.

  • It also addresses two of the main concerns users had with the iPhone Air and Galaxy S25 Edge by including a larger battery and solid camera hardware.
  • By equipping the device with a mid-range Snapdragon chip, Motorola has made it more accessible to buyers who want a slim phone without spending the big bucks.

Why should I care? If you like the idea of a slim phone but can’t justify spending flagship money on the iPhone Air or Galaxy S25 Edge, the Edge 70 is a compelling alternative.

  • Its 4,800mAh battery and fast 68W charging also help ease the battery anxiety often associated with slim phones.
  • The dedicated ultrawide camera also makes it more appealing than the iPhone Air, which only features a single rear camera despite its hefty price.

The device comes in a single 12GB/512GB configuration in two colorways: Pantone Lily Pad and Pantone Bronze Green. It’s also available in a few European markets for €800 (~$929). Motorola has yet to share details regarding US availability and pricing.

The foldable iPhone hasn’t launched, but Apple is already planning its successor
Second-generation foldable iPhone could be lined up for 2027
Foldable iPhone

Apple's first foldable iPhone is still expected to debut later this year, but the company may already be looking beyond its first attempt. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is planning a second-generation foldable iPhone for release in 2027, just one year after the original model is expected to arrive. The device is reportedly codenamed V78 and will launch alongside the 20th-anniversary iPhone model. It looks like Apple might be going all in on foldables as a long-term product category rather than a one-off experiment.

The Cupertino giant has spent years watching rival smartphone makers refine foldable hardware. Samsung, Google, Honor, Oppo, and others have gone through multiple generations of designs, experimenting with everything from narrow book-style devices to wider tablet-like formats. Apple appears to have waited until the category matured before making its move.
