If you’ve had the AirPods Max 2 in your cart or wishlist for a while now, holding back because the asking price is too much, now is your chance to save big on Apple’s latest over-ear headphones.

Ahead of the Prime Day Sale 2026, the AirPods Max 2 are available for $399, which is $150 less than the $549.00 launch price. Do the math, and you’ll realize that it’s a massive 27% discount, which is rare for the latest Apple products.

What do you get for $399?

For those catching up, the AirPods Max 2 debuted in March 2026; they’re only three months old.

This represents Apple’s best in terms of over-ear headphones, and the sound quality doesn’t fall short. I’ve used the device briefly, and it actually sounds cleaner and richer, with more evident low-end and better instrument separation.

They’re equipped with Apple’s latest H2 chip, which unlocks noticeably better active noise cancellation than the first generation, along with a bunch of intuitive audio features like Adaptive Audio (tunes ANC and Transparency Mode in real time) and Conversation Awareness (one of my favorite AirPods Pro 3 features of all time).

Best in price for iPhone users?

Apple has also improved the connectivity features on this one. The device supports high-fidelity 24-bit/48 kHz lossless audio via a wired USB-C connection, making them great for picky or professional users. I don’t fancy wired connections, but for buyers who do, this could be a big addition.

Other Apple-ecosystem features include Live Translation, which provides real-time translation directly in your ears (with the supported language pack installed), and Head Gestures, which let you nod or shake your head to manage Siri alerts.

The Amazon price cut brings the AirPods Max 2 into a much more accessible segment, one where iPhone users are already spending on the Sony WH-1000XM6, which are excellent but lack the Apple-only features I mentioned. If you’re actually looking for over-ear headphones to pair with your iPhone, and budget isn’t a concern, AirPods Max 2 are a no-brainer at $399.

I love Apple, but this watchOS decision might be my breaking point
Apple Watch

I've been using Apple products for as long as I can remember. Some of my earliest tech memories involve an iPod my father gifted me when I was a kid, and from there, I was hooked. Not long after, I got my hands on Apple's second-generation iPad, and ever since then, I've spent most of my time inside Apple's ecosystem. Fast-forward to today, and not much has changed. My daily setup revolves almost entirely around Apple products. I use an iPhone 17 as my primary phone, a MacBook Air M2 for work, an Apple Watch SE (2nd generation) on my wrist, AirPods Pro 2 in my ears, and an iPad mini whenever I want a bigger screen than my iPhone. The ecosystem works well, and it's a big reason I've stuck around for so long. That said, being a long-time Apple user doesn't mean I think the company gets everything right.

One thing I've learned over the years is that Apple often takes its sweet time adopting features Android users have enjoyed for ages. Whether it's customization, AI features, or everyday quality-of-life improvements, iPhone users are usually asked to be patient while Apple works out its own version of the idea. Most of the time, I've been willing to wait because the end result is polished enough to justify it. But there's a difference between waiting for a feature and feeling like your device has been left behind. That's exactly the feeling I've been getting lately with my Apple Watch SE (2nd generation). For the first time in a long while, I caught myself wondering whether Apple is asking too much from some of its most loyal customers.

Apple’s era of wearable intelligence begins in 2027 and cameras will be a big part of it
Accessories, Glasses, Person

Apple's wearable future is starting to come into focus, and cameras appear to be at its center. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that camera-equipped AirPods and Apple's first smart glasses are currently on the roadmap for 2027. While they may look like ordinary accessories on the surface, both products could play a crucial role in helping Apple Intelligence understand the world around its users in real time.
