Ultraportable MacBook Speculation

At the Moscone Center in San Francisco, the banners wildly declare “There’s something in the air,” and indeed there is. As the MacWorld expo starts today, analysts are betting that Apple boss Steve Jobs will announce a new, ultraportable MacBook laptop, which some believe will be half the thickness of older models and with flashed-based storage rather than the usual hard drive, according to ZDNet. The same analyst told USA Today that he also believes it could utilize a touchscreen, a la iPhone, rather than a mouse. Of course, rumors always run wild before MacWorld, but those making predictions seem very certain, and the roll out next quarter of Sprint’s WiMax technology, due in many new notebooks, certainly doesn’t dampen the flames. What else might be on the cards? Possibly a new iPhone with 16GB of storage, movie rentals through iTunes, and maybe a 3G iPhone. We’ll all find out very soon.

The new Apple Intelligence features point to one goal: fewer app-hops, fewer tiny chores, and a Siri that finally earns the spotlight.

“Apple Intelligence 2.0” isn’t Apple’s official name, but it’s a useful shorthand for where the company is going. Apple calls it the next generation of Apple Intelligence, with Siri AI as the most visible piece.

That’s a risky place to put the spotlight because Siri has baggage. For years, it's been the assistant people use for timers, weather, and arguments with a glowing orb that somehow heard every word except the important one.

Computex is always chaotic, and Computex 2026 kept the same pace. This year’s show had the usual parade of powerful laptops, overbuilt gaming rigs, and the fun, if not strange, prototypes. AI was everywhere, handheld gaming got a serious power boost, and even monitor makers came ready with displays that sound like they were pulled from a wishlist.

Google has started rolling out AI Search agents that can monitor the web for users and send updates when relevant information changes. The feature was first announced at Google I/O 2026 as part of Google’s wider AI Mode overhaul, which also included a redesigned search box, Gemini 3.5 Flash, personal intelligence features, and new agentic tools for creating mini apps and dashboards.

The new feature is called information agents. It is designed for searches that do not end with a single answer. Instead of checking the same query again and again, users can ask Google to keep tracking a topic in the background.
