How to choose a Surface Laptop during Cyber Week

Riding high in our look at the best laptop brands, any Microsoft Surface Laptop is a good choice. However, before you dive in, you need to immediately learn about the differences between the Microsoft Surface Pro and Surface Laptop. Simply put, the Surface Pro range is a tablet while the Surface Laptop is more traditional laptop like you’d see among the best laptops. Think about how you plan on using the device. A tablet is more portable and the Surface Pro has a detachable keyboard, but you might prefer the robustness of a laptop. Alternatively, the Surface Pro is made for touch and pen use, so if you want to work in that fashion, that’s the one to go for. Fortunately, whichever you go for, there’s good build quality here and an excellent display, but you really need to figure out if you want a laptop or tablet and go from there.

How we chose these Surface Cyber Week deals

When it comes to deals, we’re the experts. Every day, we seek out the best ways to save on a wide range of products. That’s why when it comes to major sales events like Black Friday and Cyber Monday, we know what we’re doing. We can instantly look at a deal and know if it’s an incremental discount or one that’s genuinely worth pursuing. During sales events, not every deal is as good as it looks, so we only look at the devices that are worth spending money on. If there’s an incremental discount on ageing tech, we likely won’t mention it, but we will mention deep discounts on something older but still respectable. Similarly, a small discount on the latest model is worth acknowledging too. In all cases, these are the Surface Cyber Week deals we would recommend to our friends and family, and that we’d be happy to own ourselves.

Apple MacBook Air M5 review: Boring has never been this good
MacBook Air M5

Quick Take

The MacBook Air M5 is what happens when Apple keeps refining an already excellent laptop instead of reinventing it. On paper, the upgrades feel modest. The design is unchanged, the display is still 60Hz, and the M5 chip isn't delivering the dramatic leap that makes last year's model instantly obsolete. Yet after spending two weeks with it, none of that really matters.

Dell Pro Max 18 Plus review: I tested this giant in an AI startup lab and it refused to sweat
A massive laptop that wants to sit on your desk, churn data, and make your desktop feel bad.

View at Dell

I test laptops for a living, and have grown a bad habit out of it. The moment a top-tier machine lands on my desk, I immediately try to push it until I find the cracks. The render that stalls, the fan curve that gives up, or the throttling wall that turns a specs sheet into mere marketing fiction. I went into the Dell Pro Max 18 Plus fully expecting to find that hurdle. Instead, I spent two weeks watching an 18-inch slab absorb everything I threw at it and keep asking for more. It even surprised the engineers at an AI lab who pitted it against their trusty training desktop.

Google is quietly testing something in Chrome Canary that I think will either become one of the browser's most useful or its most irritating additions ever.

It depends on how often you highlight text to copy it without wanting an AI to jump in.
