Is Overcooked 2 cross-platform?

Cross-play on Overcooked 2 exists, but the answer is a bit complicated.

Overcooked 2 is a great game to play with friends, provided everyone is ready for the shouting that comes with it. One person is trying to chop vegetables, another is panicking over burning rice, and someone else has probably fallen off the edge of the map with the only clean plate.

Naturally, it works best when the whole group can jump in together. But that gets a little confusing if your friends are spread across PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Overcooked 2 has been released on several platforms, but cross-platform support depends heavily on which version of the game you’re playing.

But before you drag everyone into the kitchen, there’s one annoying question to answer: can you actually play together if you’re all on different platforms?

The original standalone version of Overcooked 2 does not support full cross-platform play. However, there are a couple of exceptions, and Overcooked! All You Can Eat is where things get much easier, even if it’s a bit confusing.

Does Overcooked 2 support cross-platform or crossplay?

The standalone version of Overcooked 2 is not fully cross-platform. If you own the original release on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, or PC, you generally can’t invite friends from completely different console ecosystems into the same session. Meaning, you’re restricted to the ecosystem you buy the game for.

That means someone playing the standard version on PlayStation can’t simply join a friend on Xbox or Nintendo Switch. Console players also can’t freely match up with PC players through the original release. If your group is split across multiple platforms, this is where the base game starts to get frustrating.

There is one important exception on PC. Team17 previously added crossplay support between Steam and Epic Games Store players through the Team17 friends system. So if one person owns Overcooked 2 on Steam and another has it through Epic, they should be able to play together on PC.

So the answer for the second game isn’t a plan, yes or no. Overcooked 2 has limited crossplay support, but it is not the version you want if your group is spread across PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC.

Is Overcooked! All You Can Eat crossplay?

Yes, Overcooked! All You Can Eat is the version built for full cross-platform multiplayer.

This collection bundles the first Overcooked and Overcooked 2 into one updated package, with all the major content brought together under a single release. More importantly for this question, it supports cross-platform multiplayer, making it the cleaner option if your friends are all playing on different systems.

So a group split between PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC has a much better path through All You Can Eat than through the standalone version of Overcooked 2. It also avoids the annoying situation where everyone technically owns an Overcooked game, but not the version that can actually connect everyone.

The main thing to check is that everyone is playing Overcooked! All You Can Eat, not a mix of All You Can Eat and the original Overcooked 2. Those are separate releases, and owning one does not automatically mean you can connect with players on the other.

What about Overcooked 2 on Nintendo Switch 2?

The Nintendo Switch 2 version adds some nice upgrades, but it does not suddenly turn the original Overcooked 2 into a fully cross-platform game. Overcooked 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition includes improved visuals, 4K resolution and 60fps when docked, along with Switch 2-specific features like GameChat, GameShare, and Camera Play.

But for multiplayer, the good news is that Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 players can play together online. The bad news is that it still does not solve the larger cross-platform problem across PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC.

Which version should you buy?

The original Overcooked 2 should still do the job if the friend group is on the same platform. If everyone is on PC, Steam, and Epic Games Store, players also have a way to play together through Team17’s crossplay support.

But if your group is split across different consoles and PC, Overcooked! All You Can Eat is the safer recommendation. It is the version with proper cross-platform multiplayer, and it saves you from having to work around the original game’s platform limits.

This study found a surprising mental health perk hiding in your game library
Researchers surveyed 2,252 adults and found that specific game genres, not gaming in general, line up with lower loneliness and stronger emotional resilience.

A new study has found that adults who play certain video games report feeling less lonely and more emotionally resilient than people who don't play games at all. The findings challenge the idea that gaming is just a way to escape from real life and instead tie specific kinds of games to real, measurable shifts in how people cope with stress and isolation.
