Apple TV scores a dozen Tony nods, and it’s about to win a rare honor that I didn’t see coming

Apple TV is one Tony win away from completing an EGOT with Schmigadoon! leading this year's nominations.

When Apple launched its streaming service in 2019, the entertainment world treated it with polite skepticism. Fast forward to 2026, Apple is now on the verge of securing an EGOT, the coveted sweep of Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony, after picking up its first-ever Tony Award nominations.

The tech giant earned 12 nods for Schmigadoon!, a stage adaptation of its original Apple TV musical series. With wins already under its belt for television and film, all eyes are now on the June 7 ceremony to see if Apple can complete the prestigious sweep.

How Apple quietly built one of the most decorated libraries in entertainment

Apple’s awards haul over the past few years has been nothing short of remarkable. The studio made history at last year’s Emmy awards, becoming the most-winning freshman comedy series ever with 13 wins, while Severance led as the most-winning drama with eight victories of its own.

Pluribus earned Rhea Seehorn a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama. F1 won an Academy Award and added a Grammy when Chris Stapleton’s track from its soundtrack took Best Country Solo Performance at the 2026 ceremony. Meanwhile, CODA won Best Picture.

The tally across Apple’s entire originals slate has now crossed 816 wins and nearly 3,500 nominations, a staggering number for a service that didn’t exist seven years ago.

Behind the Tony nods is a canceled show that deserves a second chance from Apple TV

What makes the Tony nominations particularly interesting is that the Schmigadoon! series was canceled in 2024 after two seasons, even though creator Cinco Paul had already completed a fully written third season with 25 new songs ready to go.

The Broadway adaptation’s 12 nominations span nearly every major creative category, from Best Direction and Best Choreography to Best Book, Best Costumes, and Best Score.

A Best Musical win wouldn’t just complete Apple’s EGOT. It would make an awfully compelling case for finally greenlighting that already written season 3 because at this point, leaving it on the shelf would be almost criminal.
