Trevor Noah will take over The Daily Show on September 28

South African comedian and actor Trevor Noah will take The Daily Show hot seat on September 28, according to a Comedy Central promo video which calls the show “new and sexy.” “Late night will NEVER BE THE SAME,” said the channel in a tweet. “Or maybe it will. Watch to find out.”

Noah takes over for Jon Stewart, whose last day as host will be August 6. The new Daily Show host began as a correspondent on the show in December. In the video, Noah seems excited — and a little anxious — to settle into his new haunts.

“It’s an honor to follow Jon Stewart. He and the team at The Daily Show have created an incredible show whose impact is felt all over the world,” Noah said an a statement when he was announced as Stewart’s replacement in March. “In my brief time with the show they’ve made me feel so welcome. I’m excited to get started and work with such a fantastic group of people.”

We certainly expect lots of intelligent political satire, and maybe even a little controversy, from Noah as he begins in his new post this fall. Especially since there’s already been some criticism of the new host’s past tweets — and he hasn’t even started yet.

“Trevor Noah pushes boundaries; he is provocative and spares no one, himself included,” Comedy Central said in a statement. “To judge him or his comedy based on a handful of jokes is unfair. Trevor is a talented comedian with a bright future at Comedy Central.”

While we’re certainly excited to see what Noah brings to the table, we’re also sure that this isn’t the last time we’ll be seeing Stewart on the show. He has a cameo in the announcement video and has said “in fact, I may rejoin [the show] as a correspondent just to be a part of it.”
