This sleek Subaru concept previews the Impreza of the future

The all-new, fifth-generation Subaru Impreza is scheduled to land in showrooms nationwide in time for the 2017 model year. To whet buyers’ appetites, the Japanese car maker has shown a sleek Impreza concept at the 2015 LA Auto Show, one that closely previews the upcoming production model.

The concept falls in line with the company’s new “Dynamic x Solid” design language thanks to styling cues such as C-shaped headlights, a sharper rendition of the company’s ubiquitous hexagonal grille, and an aggressive front bumper with large air vents. Although the design is less angular than the last generation Impreza, Subaru says it is sportier, with a powerful stance.

Designers have given the sedan a gently-sloping roof line that creates a sleek, almost fastback-like silhouette. Sculpted flanks and a discreet spoiler integrated into the trunk lid add a muscular touch to the overall look, though it’s important to note that not all of these styling cues will make the transition from concept to production.

While technical specifications have not been released, we know that the new Impreza will be built at Subaru’s plant in Lafayette, Indiana. The car will ride on a brand new modular platform that is being designed to underpin most upcoming members of the Subaru lineup. It will consequently be wider, marginally longer, and slightly lighter than the model that’s currently sitting in showrooms.

The 2017 Impreza will also usher in a new family of flat-four engines fitted with efficiency-boosting tech features such as direct fuel-injection and cylinder deactivation. Staying true to tradition, all models will come standard with the next evolution of Subaru’s time-tested all-wheel drive system.

Stay tuned to DT Cars for more information about the upcoming Impreza as well as additional coverage from the 2015 LA Auto Show.

Samsung Display has shown a sharper stretchable display that could make future car dashboards more flexible while keeping key driving information clear.

The company is showing Stretchable Display 2.0 at SID Display Week 2026 in Los Angeles, where the demo takes the form of an automotive instrument cluster. The big change is sharpness. The micro LED-based panel reaches 200 PPI, up from the 120 PPI version Samsung Display showed last year, which puts it around the level of current automotive screens.
