From dense forests to Samurai arenas, you’ll find tons of variety on the map that will alter your gameplay approach in every single match.

There’s a lot to explore since Epic has changed things drastically in the game, given that it’s an entirely new chapter rather than a seasonal release. New Battle Pass

Epic Games

First things first, the new Chapter 6 Season 1 Battle Pass comes with an entirely new format, forgoing the Battle Stars concept and adding a new Auto Claim button for players to turn on so every reward can be claimed automatically as they level up. The Hunters Pass is now available to purchase for 1,000 V-Bucks and you can unlock premium rewards by earning XP anywhere in Fortnite.

Plus, you can earn up to 1,500 V-Bucks back by progressing the pass, along with these seriously stellar Outfits:

  • Nyanja: A two-tailed trickster (unlocked right away).
  • Jade: Discover the Island’s myths.
  • Kendo: A wandering rōnin with a restless spirit.
  • Daigo: Man of a thousand faces.
  • Shadow Blade Hope: See through the shadows.
  • Disney’s Hero Baymax: Ready to be your hero.
  • The Night Rose: A fearsome demon warrior, bound by ancient duty.

The pass also contains a secret skin, the much-awaited Godzilla Evolved Outfit that will be available from Battle Pass Quests in January and that you can complete in any experience. This Battle Pass will be available to progress in until 2 a.m. ET on February 21.

New Japanese-themed map

With a new season comes a new Fortnite map and a whole load of points of interest (POIs) ranging from bustling cities to secluded suburbs. One of the power POIs for players will be Demon’s Dojo, a mountaintop sanctuary and home of the Night Rose boss. Other popular POIs based on their chest spawns and hidden secrets such as vaults are Masked Meadows, Seaport City, Hopeful Heights, and Shogun’s Solitude.

In between the serene landscapes lies sacred ground such as the overgrown Magic Mosses with its obelisks and underground treasures and the Nightshift Forest, where the sun does not shine. Watching over it all is The Great Turtle, a venerable old soul searching for its lost partner. Explore the new island, which houses several secret locations that can greatly shift the tide of your Battle Royale gameplay.

Faster movement mechanics

Fortnite Chapter 6 Movement
Epic Games

There are four New Movement mechanics in this chapter of Fortnite.: Ledge Jumping, Roll Landing, Wall Scrambling, and Wall Kicking.

Ledge Jumping allows you to cover more distance when sprinting off a ledge. This is a great way to reach further away walls to mantle on. Roll Landing allows you to break your fall to the ground with a roll. The benefit of this is that you’ll regain a little bit of that lost stamina from the sprint jump, which can help you keep moving at a fast pace.

Wall Scrambling allows you to carry your sprinting momentum into a wall climb. This won’t allow you to scale huge buildings, but does give you the ability to use stamina instead of builds when climbing over things.

Finally, Wall Kicking is the new way to propel yourself off walls. You can use this to jump between walls and use that momentum to travel vertically up buildings. This can be done for much longer than wall scrambling.

Hitscan weapons are back

Fortnite Chapter 6 Weapons
Epic Games

Speaking of new Fortnite weapons, Typhoon Blade is a new item that comes in Epic and Mythic Rarities and gives the user a great way to move around the map a lot quicker with its sprint and super jump features. When it comes to damaging players, you can use the Cyclone Slash to unleash a powerful wave of damage and knock back anyone nearby. The swing turns the blade into a standard Sword and the falling strike allows you to crash-land onto your opponents, dealing a hefty amount of damage.

With a new chapter, of course, comes a whole bunch of new weapons, and unlike last season, these weapons do not require you to lead your shots as they now have a Hitscan and Bloom model instead of bullet drop. The First new weapon is the Veiled Precision SMG. This is a classic SMG in terms of fire rate and damage, but it is quite accurate from a distance with the trade-off of as ignificant damage decrease.

Next is the Surgefire SMG, which brings a new mechanic into how weapons operate. The longer you shoot this SMG, the quicker it fires and the more accurate it gets. This is going to be a great weapon for those who like to spray and pray. Moving on to the shotguns, we have the Sentinel Pump shotgun, which operates much like a traditional pump. The Twinfire Auto Shotgun, which has 12 shots in the mag and is very similar to the old Drum Shotgun, operates with a slower fire rate shooting in a two-round burst and has an incredibly long reload time.

Finally, the Oni Shotgun will be the weapon of choice for those who like to play from a distance. It has two rounds in the barrel and an incredibly long range with little damage drop-off. This is very similar to how the Ranger Shotgun worked in seasons prior.

Finally, we have the assault rifles. The Fury Assault Rifle will have a familiar feel for all Fortnite players, as it brings a good balance of range, damage, and fire rate. This is a classic AR that everyone will understand. The other rifle this season is the Holo Twister. This includes a Holo scope baked in as the game no longer has weapon mod benches.

This AR is more of the heavy style of weapon with a slightly slower fire rate, but higher damage, making this a perfect surge weapon for trios this season. For versatility, you can also switch between the first-person scope and the third-person view for this weapon, allowing multiple styles of play.

Introducing Sprites

Fortnite Chapter 6 Sprites
Epic Games

Endearing and helpful, Sprites are the living representation of Magic returned to the Island. Found roving all over, these innocent creatures provide unique effects.

  • Air Sprites can be thrown to create an updraft wind vortex that can send you flying with a glider redeploy. The vortex can also damage builds and launch vehicles.
  • Water Sprites can be thrown to create a healing fountain that restores health and shields to nearby players.
  • Earth Sprites will consume items you feed them in exchange for a reward.

Bring a Sprite to one of the forgotten Sprite Shrines around the Island to revitalize them and gain a powerful Boon.

Boons are the new Augments

Fortnite Chapter 6 Boons
Epic Games

Boons are a new addition to Chapter 6 and give you the ability to have a permanent buff for the duration of a match. These function similarly to the Reality Augments seen in Chapter 4.

There are four types of Boons that can be found across the map. The Wind Boon allows you to run slightly faster with your pickaxe equipped. The Fire Boon gives you a faster reload. The Water Boon regenerates both your and nearby teammates’ health and shield while in water, and the Void Boon scans the area for other players when you get a knock.

Although you can carry all four Boons at once, you can’t drop any to your teammates and they do not drop once you pick up an elimination, so choose wisely.

Two powerful bosses

Dispel the spreading darkness by hunting the dangerous Shogun X, a powerful demon warrior that rampages across the island gathering spirit energy. Defeat Shogun X to get the Wanderer Medallion, which grants infinite stamina and invisibility while sprinting.

Beware of Night Rose, whose spirit has been known to stalk those who enter her domain with surprise attacks from another realm. She drops the Night Rose Medallion on elimination, which makes your weapons reload themselves.

New Masks items

Epic Games

Masks are another new type of item in Fortnite Chapter 6. There are two types that you can find across the map. Firstly, the Fire Mask allows you to shoot a slow-moving fire projectile that deals low damage to builds, but a huge 100 damage to enemy players. This is incredibly powerful for players as combining this with a triple spray could result in some serious damage output from any range.

The second is the Void Mask, which allows the user to throw a void tear and teleport to it at any time before it despawns. This could be perfect for those difficult rotations in the endgame or to set up right before a fight and quickly escape if things go south. This will no doubt be a must-carry for competitive players this season as both of these masks also have Mythic versions dropped by the bosses that increase the number of charges that they have.

Editing made Simple

Simple Editing in Fortnite
Epic Games

Simple Edit, a new build setting you can toggle on in the Settings menu, allows for editing builds with a single button press. The resulting edit is based on the part of the building you’re looking at rather than being painted manually — it automatically executes building edits immediately, removing the step of selecting tiles altogether.

Simple Edit makes editing on the fly a breeze, and it should also prove helpful for players who are new to building in Fortnite or interested in learning. Simple Edit allows for a smaller subset of edits to choose from, and masters of the current edit system will have more edit options available.

Fortnite OG coming soon

Lastly, Fortnite is bringing back the Chapter 1 OG gameplay with a new game mode on December 6. The update will add OG graphics, gameplay, even older weapon models, and the reintroduction of popular meta like the Double Pump.

The mode will kick off with Chapter 1 Season 1 and will feature a brand new OG Pass that puts a unique spin on OG outfits such as Renegade Raider, Aerial Assault Trooper, and Skull Trooper. We’ll have more info for you on this mode in the coming days.

Black Ops and Black Ops 2 PS5 ports could cost $80 before DLC
The rumored price for these classic Call of Duty ports is hard to defend
Adult, Male, Man

Call of Duty fans were understandably excited when Treyarch confirmed that Black Ops and Black Ops 2 are coming to modern PlayStation consoles in July. Both games are among the most beloved entries in the series, and PlayStation players have been locked out of easy access to them for years unless they still had older hardware.

That excitement may not last if the latest pricing clues are accurate. As pointed out by Call of Duty tracker CharlieIntel (via Gaming Bible), Black Ops and Black Ops 2 recently received store updates on PC and Xbox. Each base game is now listed at $40, individual DLC packs cost $10 each, season passes are priced at $30, and microtransaction camos or personalization packs are now free.

Can an ice machine cool an Nvidia RTX GPU at gaming? A wild mod job proves it can
An ice machine helped cool an RTX 3060 to just 22 degrees in Cyberpunk 2077
Computer Hardware, Electronics, Hardware

A countertop ice machine is not exactly standard PC hardware, but YouTuber TrashBench has shown that it can be turned into a surprisingly effective GPU cooler. In a new video, the creator used an ice maker as the basis for a custom cooling setup for an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060, and the results were far better than expected.

The project was inspired by another creator, Mr. Yeester, who used an ice machine to cool a CPU. TrashBench took the concept in a different direction by trying to cool a graphics card with the machine itself, rather than simply dumping ice into a loop.

Epic is improving its game launcher with a long overdue speed boost and plenty of new features
Epic Games Store Launcher V2 could finally address years of user complaints
epic games logo

Epic Games has spent years trying to make the Epic Games Store a serious rival to Steam. It has given away free games, signed exclusivity deals, and kept major PC releases such as Borderlands 3, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, and The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria away from Valve’s storefront at launch. Those moves have helped Epic build an audience, but they have not been enough to seriously threaten Steam’s position as the default PC gaming platform.

One problem has been the launcher itself. Earlier this year, an Epic executive admitted to Eurogamer that the launcher “sucks,” and the company now appears to be working on a much bigger fix. According to slides from an Unreal Fest presentation shared by LuKaOnIndeed on X, Epic is developing Launcher V2, a ground-up rebuild of the Epic Games Store launcher that is supposed to be much faster and easier to use.
