What’s happened? Samsung is now rolling out the One UI 8 software update for users of the Galaxy S23 entry in the US. This is coming after more recently launched devices in Samsung’s lineup got access to the upgrade.

  • Despite being excluded from the global rollout phase, Galaxy S23 devices in the US are finally getting the software update.
  • As reported by Sam Mobile, Galaxy S23 users in the US took to various online platforms to report their devices getting One UI 8.

Why is this important? The Samsung One UI 8 software update officially became available on September 15, 2025. In the week of its release, One UI 8 arrived on on the Galaxy S25 series and then the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z Flip 6 shortly after.

  • Galaxy S23 in other regions started receiving the One UI 8 update a while ago.
  • This update brings significant tweaks to the Galaxy S23.
  • If you own a Galaxy S23 (carrier or unlocked) and live in the US, this update should be available on your device.

Why should I care? The Samsung Galaxy S23 series is part of the brand’s devices that are eligible for four years of OS upgrades. This means that the entries in this series will get the Android 17 upgrade.

  • With Android 17 preparing for launch next year, it might be the last OS upgrade that the Galaxy S23 series will receive.
  • Updates bring useful new features, handy bug fixes, and important security patches to your phone, so you should always look to update once a new software version is available.

Okay, what’s next? We already know that the One UI 8.5 update is in the development pipeline, and the One UI 8 software might give us a hint of what is to come.

Samsung One UI 9 will disable your fingerprint every time you open the power menu
The lockdown button is gone, medical info takes its place, and your Galaxy phone locks down every time you open and close the menu.

Samsung Galaxy phones have had a lockdown mode for years. It’s a manual option tucked inside the power menu that disables fingerprint and face unlock and forces a PIN entry.

It is a useful last resort for situations where someone might force you to unlock your phone with your face or finger. The problem was that most people either didn’t know it existed or never used it in the first place. One UI 9 fixes that, and it does so by removing the choice entirely.

Apple is reportedly preparing to turn the iPhone into an even bigger financial hub with a new built-in bill splitting feature designed for group dinners, travel expenses, and shared payments. According to a report from Mark Gurman, the company plans to announce the feature at WWDC next week as part of iOS 27.

The new tool would allow users to photograph a restaurant receipt, automatically calculate individual shares including tax and tips, assign items to specific people, and send payment requests directly through Apple Cash. The feature is expected to work inside both the Wallet app and Messages, with payment approvals also supported through the Apple Watch.
